Best free SEO plugins for WordPress in 2017!
SEO is a game of smart thinking, choosing the right keywords and methods, putting together great content, sharing your content in the right way, etc.
But, while they are not the thing that you should focus on, plugins and online tools can be extremely beneficial tools for your SEO efforts. You can use them to simplify your work, to get new ideas, to track your success and more.
I present you the list of some of the most useful WordPress plugins for your SEO success. There are thousands and thousands of SEO plugins. Because of that, it is really hard to decide, which ones you should choose and which ones you shouldn’t use. That’s why I created a list of some of the very best free SEO plugins for WordPress that I’ve personally tested and used to achieve great results with hundreds of keywords – personally, for my own projects and professionally, for other companies!
WordPress SEO by Yoast
This amazing plugin currently has over 3 million downloads! That itself says enough. I’ve found this plugin extremely useful to do SEO on-site optimization. It offers so many functionalities – from basics like setting the description and title of the website, to setting OG tags for a better look of your website when sharing on Facebook, to setting canonical links and even evaluating and analyzing your optimization of a web page for a specific keyword, that you enter. It also generates quality XML sitemaps and notifies Google and Bing about their existence. It’s suitable for beginners and experienced users. I encourage you to try it, as it will, without a doubt, prove to be highly useful and easy to use.
WP Smush – Image Optimization
Although not an SEO plugin, this one can have excellent results for your ranking success and even more – on the user experience. This plugin does one thing and it does it extremely well – it takes images on your websites and it makes them smaller! That makes the page loading speed much faster and that is an important factor of SEO. It can even bulk optimize your images or simply compress them as you upload them.
One of the most simple, but useful things you can do for your website right now!
All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets
Rich snippets are becoming more and more important factor of the SEO. With this plugin you can create and manage them with ease! They can significantly improve your CTR (Click Through Rate) and help you rank higher in search results because of that. They also make sure that Facebook displays proper information, when users share a link to your page on Facebook.
This plugin supports the following types of Schemas:
- Software Application
All in One SEO Pack
All in One SEO Pack is one of the most downloaded WordPress plugins with more than 3 million downloads! It’s an alternative to WordPress SEO by Yoast and I suggest you try both of them and see which one suits you better!
It is, as the name suggest, “all-in-one” solution for your SEO – well, it doesn’t exactly take care of all the SEO but it enables you to tackle most of the basic SEO challenges. It is also very beginner friendly and it can help you optimize your website right out of the box, without any custom settings.
It also has a unique feature – it automatically generates meta descriptions and optimizes titles for better rankings on search engines.
W3 Total Cache
Page speed is one of the most important factors of SEO and of user experience. That’s why it’s necessary to have a good caching plugin and W3 Total Cache just might be the best out of all of them. This greatly documented and optimized plugin does the following things:
– Optimizes HTML, CSS and JS by minifying and compressing the files and then combining them.
– It caches static website resources which makes the site loading speed significantly faster.
– It allows integration with content delivery networks for faster loading of scripts and resources.

Broken Link Checker
This is another very specific plugin, which tackles a very important aspect of SEO – broken links and URLs on your website. If you have broken links on your website, it will signal to search engines, that it’s out of date, not very well done, or something similar. Which is a HUGE disadvantage. Plus, obviously it will destroy the user experience, which will further harm your SEO efforts. This plugin allows you to automatically scan your website and all the links and it will notify you about them. Very simple and very important!
BONUS ( non-WordPress ) TOOLS!
Keyword research tool
As the name suggests, this is a tool that helps you with selecting the right keywords for your website. While there are many tools like that, this one just might be the best one that is absolutely free – you don’t even need to register for the account, you just visit http://keywordtool.io/, enter your keyword and you will get up to 750 free keyword suggestions, for various search engines as well. This can speed up the process of keyword research and works very well with the keyword research strategy, that I presented in the previous post HERE.
Free keyword tracking app for ANDROID
SERPmojo is a free app for Android, that lets you track multiple keywords, for multiple websites, on multiple domains and in multiple countries. And it does all that absolutely seamlessly – you just enter your websites, selects for which domains and search engines you want to track keywords, and refresh it once a day (or multiple times, if you want so) and you are good to go! You will get your current rankings every day, see how the rankings have improved through time, you can export the ranking and more! All that for absolutely free! You can also buy the pro version of it, which also allows you to do background scans (without having to have the app opened), analytics insights, etc! (By the way, I am in no way affiliated to this profit, so this is just an honest tip ? ).
